The idea of this course is to give you tools to better navigate personal change in your life. You’ll learn by experimenting practically, and you’ll get your head more confidently around change. By the end of the course, you should be more ready and able to navigate change – and to do so with confidence and optimism.

Guideposts

Throughout your journey, different guideposts will prompt you to “learn”, “do” and “reflect”. You’ll also find fundamental design thinking guideposts: “people”, “place” and “process”.

Learn

Refers mainly to learning material - theoretical concepts or other information about design thinking approaches.

Do

Prompts for you to engage in some action to practically experience the approaches or mindsets of a design thinker.

Reflect

Invitations to quietly contemplate, journal or think about an experience or information you’ve encountered.

People

Course participants and facilitators, as well as people in your community.

Place

Including the course landing pages, the thinkingspace you’ll access from them, WhatsApp Community, and other places outside this immediate learning space.

Process

The design thinking methodology used to facilitate your learning for the next four weeks.

Design thinking mindset prompts

Throughout this journey, you’ll be made aware of the mindsets applicable to the specific location on a design thinking map. Look out for these prompts!

Module 1: Framing the change challenge 

After completion of this module, participants will be able to: 

  • Articulate a personal change into a design challenge 

Live Kick-off Session (midway in week 1) 

After attending this kick-off session, participants will have: 

  • An overview on how to use Design Thinking for Personal Change 

  • An overview of the: ○ online learning community; 
    - learning platforms associated with this course; 
    - learning journey ahead and first task. 

Module 2: Empathise and Explore 

After completion of this module, participants will be able to: 

  • Build empathy with themselves and others 

  • Engage in an empathic interview 

Module 3: Reframe and Ideate 

After completion of this module, participants will be able to: 

  • Reframe what they have uncovered into a few “How might I…?” questions 

  • Generate small, low-stakes learning experiments 

  • Engage in a micro experiment 

Module 4: Prototype an Action 

After completion of this module, participants will be able to: 

  • Log what they learned from the experiments 

  • Create an action plan of micro steps and markers of success 

Live Reflection & Wrap-Up Session (Friday of week 4) 

After attending this wrap-up session, participants will be able to:

  • Reflect and make meaning of this learning experience and what shifted for them 

  • Reflect and participate in feedback with the learning community on final take aways
