Prototype an Action

Module 4 Prototyping your journey map

Activity: My Journey Map

Designing the Path Forward

Objective: To synthesize your insights, reframed challenge, and ideated experiments into a tangible, long-term action plan.

Step 1: Grounding Your "Big Change"

Modified Big idea template

Before you map the "How," you must be clear on the "Why." Use your reframed How Might I statement from Module 3 to fill this in.

  1. What is your Big Idea for Change? (e.g., To transition into a creative role where I have autonomy over my schedule.)

  2. Who will this help? (Hint: Think about "Future You" and those you love.)

  3. Why are you excited about this? (This is your emotional fuel.)

  4. Why do you think this will work? (Base this on your expert interview insights and your Quick Win learning.)

Step 2: The Horizon (Future Vision)

Imagine two years from now. If you successfully navigate this change, what does your life look like two years from now? Don’t hold back. Describe how this has impacted your environment, your feelings, and your daily rhythm.

“Two years from now, I am _____________________________”

Step 3: Mapping the Micro-Steps

The Path. Break your "Big Change" into manageable chunks. For each step, define a marker of success (How will you know you’ve learned something?).

  • Timeframe

  • The Micro-Step (Action you need to do)

  • Marker of Success (Feedback)

Tomorrow (10 mins)

Example: Send a 'Thank You' note to my expert.

I feel a sense of completion/connection.

Next Week (The Experiment)

Next Month (The Milestone)

Next Year (The Habit)

Two Years from Now (The Vision)

Step 4: The Mindset Check-In

Design Thinking is iterative. Your map is a prototype, not a contract.

If you get stuck:

  • Go back to Empathy (Module 2). What insight am I ignoring?

  • Go back to Ideation (Module 3). What’s a different way to do this?

  • Focus first on the "Future vision" step and then work backwards.
