Reframe and Ideate
Module 3 Reframing for opportunity
Activity: The Great Reframe
Turning Insights into Action
Objective: To synthesize your interview findings into a sharp "Point of View" (POV) and a final "How Might I..." (HMW) question that will fuel your experiments.
Step 1: The Insight Hunt
Go back to your Empathy Map from Module 2. Look for the insights, the moments where what you learned from your expert surprised you most or changed how you thought about the challenge.
List your Top 3 "Aha!" moments from the interview:
Pro-Tip: An insight is a "discovery" about the deeper why behind the change. Dig deeper by asking yourself WHY this would be true multiple times.
Example:
Sarah was scared of taking the new position at work. WHY? -> The position felt like it came with a lot more pressure. WHY? -> She would be under a lot of scrutiny in this new role. WHY? -> There are a lot of people at the office who have strong insight into this work. WHY? ->
"I realized Sarah wasn't scared of the new position, she was scared of what her colleagues would think of her being placed in charge.")
Step 2: The POV (Point of View) Statement
Now, let’s combine your user (You!), your deep need, and your new insight into one powerful sentence. This is your "Design North Star."
The Formula:
[User/You] needs a way to [Deep Need] because [Surprising Insight].
Draft your POV here: ____________________needs a way to________________________________________ because ____________________________________________________________________.
Example: "Mark needs a way to feel like a beginner again because he realized his 'expert' status was actually preventing him from trying new things."
Step 3: The Final "How Might I..." (The Reframe)
We now take that POV and flip it into a question. This question should be narrow enough to give you focus, but broad enough to allow for a range of different solutions.
Transform your POV into a HMI:
How Might I [Action] so that [Outcome/Insight-driven goal]?
Example: "How might I create 'beginner moments' in my work week so that I can lower my fear of failure?"

WhatsApp Community Task: Share your Reframed HMI Statement with your group.
Activity: The Quick-Win Generator
From "Wild Ideas" to "Small Steps"
Objective: To move from one big, scary challenge to 20+ tiny, approachable possibilities by leaning on the collective creativity of your cohort.
Step 1: The "Launch" (Individual Prep)
Before you join the group, get your own engine running.
Write your Reframed "How Might I..." Statement here: __________________________________________________________________________
The 2-Minute Dash: Set a timer. Write down the first 10 ideas that come to mind. Don't judge them—even if they are boring or impossible!

Step 2: The "Idea Party" (Group Activity on Padlet)
Now, take your HMI question to the Padlet [Link in WhatsApp/Email].
Your Mission:
Post your HMI statement as a new column.
Seed the Group: Visit at least 3 other people’s columns.
Use the "Yes, And..." Rule: When you see an idea, don't say "But..." or "That won't work." Take inspiration and instead, say: "Yes, and what if you also...?"
Step 3: Harvesting Your "Quick Win" (Personal Reflection)
Go back to your column on Padlet. Look at the "wild" and "weird" ideas your peers have left for you. Now, let’s find your Experiment.
The "Quick Win" Filter: Pick one idea that meets these three criteria:
Fast: Can be tried in under 30 minutes.
Cheap: Costs little to no money.
Learning-Focused: It will help you learn more about if your reframing of the change you need to make is correct.
My Chosen "Quick Win" Experiment: _______________________________________
Step 4: Define the "Marker of Success"
How will you know if the experiment worked? We aren't looking for a "happily ever after." We are looking for Data.
My Action: "I will [Action] on [Day/Time]..."
My Marker of Success: "I’ll know I’ve learned something if [Result/Feeling/Reaction] happens."
Example: "I will send a 2-minute voice note to my old mentor. I'll know it worked if I feel a sense of relief just by hitting 'send,' regardless of if they reply."
The "Idea Starter" Menu for Padlet
When participants visit the Padlet to brainstorm for their peers, they can use these five specific lenses to generate more diverse experiments.
Suggest adding a small "Cheat Sheet" icon next to the Padlet instructions in the workbook:
Stuck for an idea? Use a Spark!
1. The "Zero Budget" Lens
The Prompt: "How would you try this if it had to cost exactly $0 and take less than 10 minutes?"
2. The "Superhero/Icon" Lens
The Prompt: "What would [Sherlock Holmes / MacGyver / A Zen Monk] suggest as a first step?"
3. The "Opposite Day" Lens
The Prompt: "What is the absolute worst possible way to handle this change? (Now, what is the opposite of that?)"
4. The "Five-Year-Old" Lens
The Prompt: "If a 5-year-old were looking at this problem, what simple (and probably funny) thing would they tell you to do?"
5. The "Analogous Industry" Lens
The Prompt: "How would a Master Chef (focus on ingredients/prep) or a Formula 1 Pit Crew (focus on speed/efficiency) solve this?"
